Artist's Statment

I have explored abstract expressionism and color for many years. Now I find myself drawn to the square and to the lusciousness of color.  I like how the square (or rectangle) is straight forward.  It’s honest and calm and steadfast.  It reminds me of my fondness for Amish quilts.  I use color to create depth, movement and a bounce. Below the surface, in the guts of these paintings is a textural expressionism in the form of clawing and scratches, itchiness, cherry pits, finger marks and apple seeds creating it’s own movement and tension.  The end result brings me calmness as if I’ve conquered chaos.
